A Wichita firefighter has died after being injured during a house fire south of the city.
The fire was reported by a passerby on the Kansas Turnpike around 3 p.m. Thursday and crews were sent to the 9800 block of South Laura, near Haysville. Flames were showing from a mobile home when crews arrived. Reports indicate a firefighter had a medical emergency while battling the fire, and he was taken to a hospital in very critical condition. His name has not been released.
The fire was put out in a short time and the cause is under investigation. Crews from Sedgwick County, Derby and McConnell Air Force Base also responded to the scene.
