Wichita’s League 42 baseball organization will unveil a new statue of baseball legend Jackie Robinson on Monday evening at McAdams Park. The statue replaces one that was stolen and destroyed earlier this year.
An unveiling ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. and a strong turnout of players and families is expected. A shuttle bus will be provided at the south end of McAdams Park, off of 13th Street, to take people from the parking area to the ballfields. Officials from Major League Baseball and the Kansas City Royals are expected to attend the unveiling.
The statue was created at a Colorado foundry from the mold that was used for the original statue. It was placed in a pickup truck for transportation to Wichita late last week.
