Today, we salute local Navy Veteran Stephen J. Morrison. Stephen served in the Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1977. He died on July 7th at the age of 65 with no living relatives. He body went unclaimed and this means he will be laid to rest on Wednesday with no family present. A spokesperson for Dignity Memorial says with no living relatives, the service will be provided through Dignity Memorial’s Homeless Veterans Burial Program. After the service, an American Legion Riders procession will escort Stephen to his final resting place, the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Dignity Memorial says they are asking the public to show up and be Stephen’s family to help say goodbye to him. Morrison’s service will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Cemetery, located at Kellogg and 119th if you’d like to attend. Thank you to everyone helping give Stephen the service he deserves, and THANK YOU Stephen for your service.
