A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a Wichita woman to life in prison for a fatal shooting that happened in the Old Town neighborhood last year.
The sentence was given to 20-year-old La’Niha Banks who was found guilty of first degree murder earlier this year.
Banks was arrested after the May, 2023 shooting death of 19-year-old LaTionna Johnson. Police found Johnson with two gunshot wounds in the 1000 block of East 1st, and she was taken to a hospital where she later died. Police said Johnson had broken up a fight between a friend and Banks, and she was shot as she drove away.
Banks was also given consecutive sentences of 165 months for attempted first degree murder and 13-month sentences for five other counts. She will be eligible for parole after 25 years.
