The Neosho County Sheriff’s Office said a college student drowned over the weekend while swimming with friends in the Neosho River.

Deputies were called to Detners Dam around 6 p.m. Saturday.  They were told that a 21-year-old international student from Fiji had jumped off the dam, then he was caught in the river current and drowned.   He was a student at Neosho County Community College.

Crews recovered the man’s body and it was sent to a facility for an autopsy.   The name of the student has not been released.
