Today, the AWESOME is in West Virginia. Jennifer was born with a genetic condition called situs inversus, which caused her lungs and other organs to develop in a reversed anatomical position. In 2018, she was hospitalized almost the entire year with infections that eventually led to a need for a double lung transplant. Jennifer received that gift from Jill Ellis and later met the donor’s family when they traveled from Wisconsin to West Virginia to meet Jennifer. That’s when Jennifer met Travis. It was his sister’s lungs that saved her. The two kept in touch and, over time, fell in love. He proposed in 2023, and they were married last month. A sister donated her lungs, the brother gave away his heart. THAT’S AWESOME.
