Today, the AWESOME is at Dollywood Theme Park, and proves that not all heroes wear capes; some wear uniforms. Out of uniform and out of state, Sergeant Paul DeSousa was vacationing at Dollywood when he heard cries for help. Following the cries, he came upon a park employee attempting the Heimlich maneuver on a boy who was not breathing. Paul assessed the situation and couldn’t see anything in the boy’s mouth or throat, but the child was not breathing and was turning blue. DeSousa began performing CPR and was joined by a paramedic who was vacationing at the theme park. “Together, the two worked to get the boy breathing again, and color began to return to his face,” the sheriff’s office said. “They then stayed with the boy until an ambulance arrived.” Protecting and serving even on vacation THAT’S AWESOME.
