A Florida man has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with a 2023 crash that left two women dead in southeast Wichita.
Charges were filed against 21-year-old Ahmad Juma, who was arrested in Miami, Florida and booked into the Sedgwick County jail this week. He was also charged with two alternative counts of involuntary manslaughter. Alternative counts can be filed if there are two or more theories on the cause of an incident.
Police said Juma was driving a car that went out of control, hit a pole and rolled several times near Pawnee and Woodlawn on November 15th of 2023. Two passengers in the car, 19-year-old Lian Awadi and 19-year-old Carol Chakra, died as a result of the crash. Juma was thrown from the vehicle and hospitalized.
Juma’s bond was set at $500,000 and his next court appearance was scheduled for February 3rd.
