A detention deputy at the Sedgwick County jail was injured Friday when a fight broke out between two inmates in one of the pods at the jail.
The Sheriff’s Office said the fight broke out around 11 a.m. and it involved an improvised weapon. Deputies moved in to break up the fight, and one of them was struck in the head by a third inmate. That deputy lost consciousness for a short time, and he was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. One of the inmates was taken to a hospital for the removal of a taser probe used to break up the fight.
Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident.
