Today, the AWESOME is in Oklahoma City. Whether you’re 11 or an adult, hearing an explosion in your house is frightening, making it hard to remain calm. However, that’s just what 11-year-old Mandy Eggleston did when lightning struck her house, starting an immediate fire and filling the home with smoke. Going into what she called “adult mode,” Mandy quickly ran to check on her mother and younger brother Ryan, who had both been asleep. Without hesitation, she pushed them toward the door and out of harm’s way, even helping her mom, who sprained her ankle while escaping. In the midst of the chaos, Mandy remained calm enough to grab her phone and call 911. She later, at the hospital, responded to calls and texts from concerned loved ones. The house was almost a total loss, thankfully, everyone is safe, and they plan to rebuild, and THAT’S AWESOME.
