Today, the AWESOME is in Pensacola, Florida. One witness called it a true act of humanity, and others praised Florida fisherman Andrew Smith for his quick thinking. Last Thursday, Andrew wasn’t even planning on going to the beach, but decided last minute to go. He had only been there 10 minutes when a panicked girl rushed up to him, begging for someone to save her friend who was being pulled further away from shore in a dangerous rip current. Andrew wasn’t a strong swimmer, so he used his drone to try to fly a flotation device out to the girl. The first attempt failed due to the wind. With things getting critical, he tried again and was successful. Allowing the girl to float and giving rescuers time to get to her. Emergency crews said if he had not gotten the flotation device to her, she would have most likely not survived. When quick thinking and a drone save the day, THAT’S AWESOME.
