Today, the AWESOME is found in Miami, Florida. Old sneakers can become a real problem for landfills and the environment. One business in Miami has found a way to do something about it. Sneaker Impact was founded by a man seeking a more environmentally friendly way to do business, and second-hand shoes is a good gig—the only competition is the landfill. Americans will own an average of 250 pairs of shoes in a lifetime, and that is unfortunately where many will end up. Each year, they receive about 1 million pairs of shoes; through their efforts, they resell and recycle them. They even repurpose them and create a gym sandal that’s made of 85% sneaker foam, a durable, flexible, and weather-resistant material. Doing good things for the planet one pair of shoes at a time, THAT’S AWESOME.
