Today, I salute Army and Marine Veteran David Mathis. David lost his legs in Iraq in 2017 when an IED struck the vehicle he was riding in. He retired from the Army after 18 years; before that, he was a military police officer in the Marines. After all he’s been through, he is receiving a token of appreciation from the organization “A Soldier’s Journey Home.” Thanks to more than 120 volunteers, he will receive a mortgage-free home for his wife of 24 years and their two kids. The home is fitted with wider doorways and fewer stairs to improve Mathis’ accessibility. Enjoy your new home, David, and THANK YOU for your service.
