Today, the AWESOME lives in Lapeer, Michigan. Jason Sellards is a volunteer at the Refuge Homeless Resource Center, and he shared his story on Facebook the other day. In 2023, Jason met a homeless woman at the door of the Refuge who wore a look of despair on her face. Without question, he invited her in. She was hungry, she hadn’t showered in a while, and her hair was matted with leaves and other things. He sat her down and served her a huge helping of biscuits and gravy, to which she replied, “What’s biscuits and gravy?” Realizing she was serious made her react to how good they were, which was everything for Jason. Fast forward to the other day when the woman walked back into the shelter, unrecognizable. Jason said she looked amazing, like a model. She said she recently had a biscuits and gravy casserole and thought of Jason and wanted to come by the shelter to thank him for his kindness. Jason’s eyes swelled with tears. When biscuits and gravy can be life-changing, THAT’S AWESOME.
