Today, I salute Air Force Veteran Jamie Oltersdorf. Under the flags and trees on the campus of Yavapai College in Arizona rests a collection of bronzed combat boots permanently affixed to a low concrete wall bearing the words “The Unheard 22.” It is a memorial that came into existence thanks to Jamie’s efforts. Jamie is on the staff at Yavapai College, she’s not just a Veteran but she is a suicide survivor and the creation of this memorial was a personal journey for her and a way to ensure that she could do her part to help prevent Veteran suicide and help with the healing of those affected by veteran suicide.
