Today, I salute the United States Army. On June 14th, 1775, the Continental Army was formed to fight against the British for independence during the American Revolutionary War. After the Revolutionary War, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on June 3rd, 1784, to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The United States Army considers itself a continuation of the Continental Army, and thus considers its institutional inception to be the origin of that armed force in 1775. Saturday, we say Happy Birthday to the United States Army and to all active duty, Veterans, and those who paid with their lives. THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice.
