Today, I salute World War II Veteran Robert Bailey. Robert Bailey grew up in a small coal-mining community that no longer exists in the north-central region of Alabama – it had only three telephones that residents shared. Now seeing everyone walking around with phones, he says, “When you live a long time, you see a lot of changes in the world.” One thing that hasn’t changed is his zest for life. Robert continues to embrace and enjoy life with a routine that includes working out twice weekly at his local gym, where he motivates and inspires generations to get up and move. Robert says that eating right and staying active are just two of the secrets to his longevity. While current challenges include rheumatoid arthritis in his hands and shoulders, declining hearing, and the use of a walker to help with balance issues, Bailey still lives independently in his home, which he purchased in 1963. Thank you for inspiring Robert, and THANK YOU for your service.
