Today, I salute Army Veteran Roy Giubbini. After years of battling mental and physical health issues, Roy was frustrated and needed answers. What he did not expect was for those answers to come on four legs. Roy was once on the brink of homelessness and struggling in silence, and all of that changed when he was introduced to a rescue dog named Buddy. Buddy is a deaf shelter pup who needed a second chance. The bond that is now growing between Roy and Buddy is helping Roy re-engage with life again, open up, move forward, and discover a new purpose. Roy says Buddy gave him the push he needed to stop avoiding help and reach out to a case manager at Volunteers of American who helpd him navigate housing, VA benefits and support services.
