Today, the AWESOME is in Saratoga Springs, Utah. No one likes to stay in the hospital any longer than they need to. Now, imagine being in the hospital for almost 3 years. That was the life of Sienna Barton. Sienna was born with half a heart. She endured surgeries as a baby and spent more than two years on a mechanical heart while waiting for a transplant. Her family eventually found hope in Texas, where doctors were able to match her with a donor heart in June. That lifesaving gift meant a long recovery, but on day 975 of their journey, the Bartons finally drove back into their neighborhood—together. That drive home was made extra special when the streets of Saratoga Springs were lit up with pink and purple as neighbors cheered for their hometown hero. Her parents said, “Our daughter is only alive today because another family chose donation.” Donating life, saving a life, and a beautiful homecoming, THAT’S AWESOME.
