Today, I salute Kansas Air Force Veteran Toni Maehann-Kolb. Toni spent two decades in the Air Force, and she loves talking about her service. She says she loved almost every minute serving her country, sharing that the Air Force gave her a second family. Toni says, “I grew up in the country with C-130s from Pittsburgh Air National Guard flying overhead every day.” Little did she know that would be the first aircraft she was assigned to after completing her training as an aviation resource management specialist. After enlisting in 1996, her role in the Air Force required her to ensure that the air crews under her supervision had everything they needed to succeed, including verifying their qualifications for their assigned aircraft and ensuring they were medically cleared to fly, all so that the missions could run as smoothly as possible. She also worked in more one-on-one situations with fighter pilots. No longer on active duty, Toni is still serving at her new job scheduling veteran appointments at the Robert J. Dole VA.
