Today, I salute retired Marine Cpl. John Mevey from Wichita. In 2008, John was on a night operation in Afghanistan when he stepped on a land mine. The blast extensively damaged both of his legs, resulting in his right leg being amputated below the knee and partial paralysis in his left leg. While John has not let the injuries define him, you can imagine he faces some challenges that many of us don’t. Enter, Wounded Warriors Family Support and Radian Group Inc. as part of the Mobility is Freedom program. Together, they teamed up to donate a special gift to John. He received a new mode of mobility: a 2025 Ford F-150 pickup truck. John and his wife are very thankful for the donation and hope to open their own charity to support other Veterans like John.
