Trying to afford health care or get out from under the mountain of medical bill debt. Transformation Church in Pensacola partnered with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt to erase a staggering $6.5 million in medical debt for local residents. The church raised $40,000 in donations, which Undue Medical Debt used to purchase and pay off medical debt portfolios — wiping out balances for an estimated 4,400 people in the area. The surprise announcement was made this past Sunday during the service. The individuals whose medical debt was erased are not members or regular attendees of the church — just residents who happened to be carrying medical debt purchased by the nonprofit.
