Today, the AWESOME is in Fort Dodge, Iowa. 9-year-old Colton Homes is being rewarded for taking action and saving lives. Recent winter weather left the city streets and sidewalks a mess. To help the city crews, Colton decided to help by clearing out the fire hydrant near his house. It would turn out to be a kind gesture that saved lives the next day. The Fort Dodge Fire Department used that very fire hydrant to help put out a structure fire that displaced several people and pets. As a reward for his bravery, the fire department gave Colton a patch and a challenge coin to remember to be a leader, in addition to a ride to school in a fire truck, and THAT’S AWESOME.
