Today, the AWESOME is in Yukon, Oklahoma. It could have been much worse, but thanks to the quick thinking and heroic actions of the staff at La Petite Daycare it wasn’t. Last weekend, a vehicle crashed off the roadway and slammed into a La Petite Academy, igniting a fire inside the building. At the time, 33 children and five adults were inside. Staff members immediately began evacuating children — some just one year old — carrying two or three at a time through smoke and chaos. Thanks to their calm, training, and courage, every single child and adult made it out safely. No children were injured. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke, flames, and a vehicle embedded in the building. While the structure is expected to be a total loss, what truly mattered was not, and THAT’S AWESOME.
