Today, I salute 105-year-old Marine Corps Veteran Staff Sergeant Louis Tanzer. Born on Christmas Day in 1920, Tanzer enlisted in the military in his early 20s and served in the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, despite being eligible for deferment during World War II. In December, volunteers collected birthday cards to honor Louis. One of those cards came from the New England Patriots and was autographed by head coach Mike Vrabel, Patriots Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, and New England’s entire roster of players, and a jersey with the number 105 on it. The surprises didn’t stop there. Tanzer also received a video call from Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft. Kraft told Louis that he was his hero. Kraft finished the call, telling Louis the team hopes they can give him one more birthday present in a couple of weeks. Congratulations on the special birthday, Louis, and THANK YOU for your service.
