Today, I salute Army Veteran Sergeant First Class Aaron Cornelius. Aaron served as a platoon sergeant when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded, injuring his eyes, face, and head and leaving him blind. Cornelius has transitioned back to daily life without sight, but his current Bradenton home presents daily challenges, including changing the thermostat, using the stove, and arming his home security system. Two years ago, Cornelius connected with the nonprofit Homes For Our Troops and selected their “American Dream model” home. With the help of the non-profit and the community, Cornelius’s new adaptive smart home is expected to be ready in May. The custom adaptations will give him the ability to feel comfortable, safe, and independent in his own home. Enjoy your new home Aaron and THANK YOU for your service.
