Today, I salute Army Veteran Deke Letson. In an effort to find peace and purpose in the Colorado outdoors, Deke founded Veterans Exploration Therapy four years ago, calling it a school project that went horribly right. Deke said that when he got home from Iraq in 2008, he started drinking and self-isolating, and eventually it led to his divorce. He enrolled at Red Rocks Community College and discovered a love for the outdoors. Veterans Exploration Therapy has about three hundred members offering ninety-four programs year-round. Hiking, camping, ice fishing, and yes, dog sledding too, have provided a great way for Veterans to connect with one another and work on their personal recovery. Thank you for helping other Veterans, Deke, and THANK YOU for your service.
