Today, the AWESOME is in Chicago. Last Wednesday, a gust of wind sent a stroller carrying an 8-month-old girl rolling straight into Lake Michigan at Belmont Harbor. One of the people close by who didn’t hesitate was Lio Cundiff. Leo saw the stroller go into the water and jumped in after the baby. Here’s the thing: Lio doesn’t know how to swim. Add to that how dangerously cold Lake Michigan is this time of year. Lio said the baby dipped under a couple of times and was crying, but he was able to keep her breathing and get her back to shore. Lio spent the night in the hospital to have his heart monitored. The baby is going to be just fine. When a fear of water doesn’t stop you from being a hero, THAT’S AWESOME.
