Today, I salute Marine Veteran Ken Fleming and Navy Submarine Veteran Vern Shurtz. Mary Lou Combs was 41 years old at the time and was reported missing when she was last seen driving from the home she sometimes shared with her mother and children on Aug. 19, 2003. She then didn’t show to get her paycheck at her job and didn’t show up for her daughter’s birthday party. Concern about her whereabouts grew after she failed to get her paycheck at a Food Lion supermarket in Flagler Beach and didn’t show up for her daughter’s birthday shortly after. It’s been more than 22 years since Mary Lou Combs went missing in Flagler Beach, Florida, but thanks to Fleming and Shurtz, it appears her remains have finally been found. Fleming said it was wonderful to bring her back and to be able to call it a solved case. Thank you, Ken and Vern, for bringing closure, and THANK YOU for your service.
