Today, the AWESOME comes from Cleveland, Ohio. Back in 1972, Rita Marshall and Darlene Gilleland were leaving a movie theater when they noticed a shopping cart pushed against their car. Inside it was a paper bag, and inside the bag was a newborn, just hours old, dressed in yellow and wrapped in a blanket. They called the police and stayed with the baby all the way to the hospital. There, she was examined, declared healthy, and given the name Jeanne Westgate — “Westgate” for where she was found, and “Jeanne” after the nurse who cared for her. The two women never forgot that experience or the baby and found themselves always thinking about the baby. Fast forward 53 years, and little Jeanne Westgate was now Pearl Marshall, and after a lot of investigative work on her own, she tracked down Rita and Darlene, and the three women reunited recently, sharing lots of tears, hugs, and laughs.
