Today, the AWESOME is in Ashland, Virginia. On a frigid morning in Ashland, VA, Dan DiCandilo’s dog, Gozier, insisted on their daily walk. Midway, Gozier’s unusual barking led Dan to an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s, collapsed in the cold. Dan later learned the woman lived next door to where she was found and had been outside in the freezing temperatures for three hours. Her body temperature had dropped to 78 degrees — a level classified as severe hypothermia and a critical medical emergency. She was taken to a local hospital and released a few days later. Thanks to Gozier’s quick response, the woman was rescued and recovered. The town later honored Gozier for her life-saving actions, and THAT’S AWESOME
