Today, I salute Kansas Navy Veteran Bobby Purify. Bobby joined the Navy in 1977 after refusing to be redshirted on his college baseball team. Seeking a path that avoided ground combat, he chose naval service and trained as a boatswain’s mate aboard the USS Peleliu. During his four years, he handled deck duties and worked in supply shops, managing the canteen and clothing store. Stationed in Long Beach, he completed four tours across Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, and Japan, while staying focused and out of trouble. Leaving in 1982 as an E3 seaman, Purify later settled in Wichita. Thank you for sharing your story Bobby and THANK YOU for your service.
