Today, the AWESOME is found in Campton, New Hampshire. Seven-year-old Ben O’Reilly, a deaf first-grader in New Hampshire, once felt isolated at school, with little ability to communicate beyond his aide. As the only deaf student in his district, he struggled to form connections. That changed when classmates began learning sign language to include him. What started with a few students quickly spread throughout the school, with teachers and staff joining in. Ben’s parents were overwhelmed by the support. As more people learned to sign, Ben became more engaged and confident. The shared effort transformed his experience, helping him build friendships and showing him the value of communication.
