Today, I salute Army Veteran Katie Verderber. After suffering a severe back injury during deployment in Afghanistan and undergoing multiple surgeries, Katie eventually began using a wheelchair. During rehabilitation at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, she was introduced to adaptive sports, discovering wheelchair curling at a 2024 winter clinic. What began as a recovery activity quickly became a passion, leading to her selection for Team USA at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games. Supported by family and driven by resilience, Verderber now channels her military spirit into competition, encouraging fellow Veterans to embrace challenges, stay active, and find renewed purpose. Thank you for inspiring all to face challenges head-on, Katie, and THANK YOU for your service.
