Today, I salute Iraq War Veteran Fred Minnick. After his service, Minnick struggled with PTSD, battling anger, isolation, and anxiety. With support from his wife and therapy through the VA, he discovered mindfulness techniques to manage his symptoms. What began as a simple exercise—focusing on the texture and taste of food—led him to explore “taste mindfulness” through bourbon. This practice became a grounding, meditative tool that helped him heal and find purpose. Minnick later built a career writing about bourbon and sharing his journey, inspiring fellow veterans by showing how mindfulness and passion can aid in recovery from trauma. Thank you for inspiring others, Fred, and THANK YOU for your service.
