The Star Spangled Salute is brought to you by

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors the hundreds of Veterans who have gathered in Tempe, Arizona for the National Veterans Wheelchair Games.  Veterans Roy Wilkins and Brian Conwell, like so many others in Tempe Thursday, are here to win. Roy said he was mad at the world when a roadside bomb in Afghanistan changed his life in 2004. A life long athlete, Roy was in a dark place until a friend had a conversation with him.  She told him about the Wheelchair Games — 50 states and 20 countries with service men with similar injuries. She thought it would benefit him and it did.  The former Clemson football player who won a national championship in 1981 thrived and his story is just one of so many that have benefited from the games. To Roy and all the Veterans competing in the games, THANK YOU for your service.
