The Star Spangled Salute is brought to you by

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Marine Veteran William Steuber.  Fighting in Iraq in 2009, William aggravated his back, then reinjured it while working as the commanding officer of the Afghan Police Advisor team.  In 2016 doctors told him his injuries were too serious for participating in any athletic activity. That didn’t stop William from trying because he had a dream he’s had since he was a teenager, to compete in and finish an Ironman Triathlon.  Close to 300lbs, William said, “I was close to 300 lbs, I was not where I wanted to be … I broke my first bike that I was on. I cracked the frame on it. I broke the axel I weighed so much. I had to get a special seat made because I was so big. I was like ‘how in the world is this going to happen?’” Lucky for William he had a great support system, and this past weekend he swam, biked, and ran over 130 miles. His final time was 15:57:51. It was not a winning margin, but it was an inspirational one and William hopes other Veterans will be inspired by his journey. Thank you William for setting the example and THANK YOU for your service.
