Sedgwick County has confirmed its results of a recount of votes from the August 2nd primary election on a ballot question dealing with abortion access.

The results of the recount confirmed the rejection by Kansas voters of the proposed amendment, which would have removed abortion rights from the state constitution.  The recount ended with eight additional yes votes and 49 fewer no votes, but the proposal was rejected statewide by 59 to 41 percent, a margin of about 165,000 votes.

Nine counties were involved in the recount, including the two largest counties of Johnson and Sedgwick.  Johnson County finished its recount on Saturday, leaving Sedgwick County as the only county that had not released its official recount results.    Johnson County election officials said there were no significant changes from the recount, and the constitutional amendment was rejected by more than 95,000 votes.

Voters in Sedgwick County rejected the ballot question 58 to 42 percent in the official results from August 2nd.

Two anti-abortion activists provided $120,000 to fund the recount in the nine counties.
