With Lem Moore stepping down as the Interim Chief of the Wichita Police Department, Troy Livingston has been appointed as the new Interim Chief.

Livingston will officially take over on September 27. Moore will continue to work with the WPD until September 30, to help with the transition. The city says Livingston worked for the WPD starting in 1995, before retiring from a Deputy Chief position in 2019. Livingston is not a candidate for the new Chief position.

“Troy Livingston is a great fit to serve the City as Interim Chief,” says City Manager Robert Layton.
“He has an outstanding depth of experience and knowledge of the department. His tested judgement and commendable experience at just about every level of leadership in the department, from officer to deputy chief, gives him a great perspective and understanding of the needs of the City and the department. He will be a strong, respected leader while the search for the permanent chief position is completed.”

Livingston said, “I am looking forward to serving my community again, as well as preparing for a
smooth transition for the new chief. This is a wonderful opportunity to get a lot of great progress
accomplished for the City in the interim.”

The city has been working to find a new police chief since June. A candidate is expected to be chosen by this fall.
