The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 16-year-old student died early Monday in a crash in Stafford County.
A car was going east in the 100 block of NE 20th when it went into a ditch and struck a tree. The driver, 16-year-old Shane Riley Sheets of St. John, was dead at the scene. He was a student at USD 349. The district provided counselors and staff to meet with students after the news of the crash.
The crash was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m.
