The Midwest Criminal Justice Institute at Wichita State University has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for the funding of a Crime Gun Intelligence Training and Education program.

The $1.3 million grant will supplement a previous award of $1.3 million to create a national model for advancing gun crime tactics and strategy.   Kansas Senator Jerry Moran said the grant will help train and equip current and future generations of criminal justice professionals.

The grant will help in creating new curriculum and it will enhance existing efforts for students and law enforcement, training them in the use of crime gun intelligence and other emerging investigative technologies.   The grant will also help WSU in partnering with other universities and law enforcement agencies across the nation.

New curriculum is being developed to provide WSU students with knowledge of the most advanced techniques in the collection, processing and investigative use of crime gun intelligence as part of a violent crime reduction strategy.
