1. A gunman opened fire on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas yesterday, killing at least three people and critically wounding at least one other. The suspect was killed at the scene after a shootout with police
2. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R, CA-20) announced yesterday he is resigning from Congress this month before the end of his term in January 2025. The 58-year-old’s exit caps off a 17-year career in the House and comes two months after he became the first House speaker in US history to be removed from office.
3. There’s a new AI on the block. Google unveils Gemini, a large language model that the company says currently outcompetes OpenAI’s ChatGPT on common metrics; The technology will be integrated into major Google products, including Pixel 8 Pro phone
4. Wichita residents in the Riverside area are ticked off about the “Trash Panda” problem that is growing in their neighborhood. The pesky racoons are causing yard and property damage, making messes and in some cases squatting in people’s houses. Many say something needs to be done before it becomes a public health problem.
