Kansas Sec. of Labor in Wichita to help coordinate Spirit layoffs response

Kansas Secretary of Labor Delia Garcia and Deputy Secretary Brett Flachsbarth were in Wichita Thursday at the Workforce Center, to help coordinate the state’s response efforts to aviation workers affected by the halting of production for the 737 Max.

KFDI News spoke with Secretary Garcia who says that the state is in excellent shape to assist workers who have been or could be laid off.  She says the state Unemployment Insurance Fund has a surplus of $990 million and is solvent.

She said the Kansas Department of Labor is working with local organizations, as well as other state agencies and the congressional representatives to make sure those affected have the resources they need.

Deputy Secretary Flachsbarth says the most important thing they want workers to know is there is a wealth of resources available to them, not just unemployment, but job training, job placement, and connection to other services that can assist them.  Those who are looking for assistance can visit the Workforce Center, located at 2021 North Amidon, Suite 1100.
