Today, JJ’s Star Spangled Salute honors 70-year-old Air Force Veteran Jim Alturo. Jim said he retired early so he could find a way to give back and what started as a small thing has now grown nationally. Jim started his retirement with daily walks and picking up trash. That soon focused on cigarette butts. Last year he picked up over 24,000 of them and at a penny a butt, donated $240 to the American Lung Association. They noticed his hard work and in honor of Jim started the “Jim’s Cigarette Butt Challenge” with a gofundme page that in just a couple of weeks has raised over $1300 with a goal of $35k.
