A Marine from Kansas was among the five Marines who were killed Tuesday night in the crash of a helicopter near San Diego, California.

Lance Corporal Donovan Davis, 21, of Olathe, Kansas was among the Marines on board the copter.   The others were identified as helicopter crew chief Sargent Alec Langen of Arizona, Captain Benjamin Moulton of Idaho, Captain Jack Casey of New Hampshire and Captain Miguel Nava of Michigan.

The crash happened on a training flight between Las Vegas and San Diego Tuesday night in the Cleveland National Forest.

Kansas Senator Jerry Moran issued a statement in response to the tragedy:

“Today, we learned that Kansas lost one of its finest in the tragic helicopter crash that took the lives of five United States Marines. Lance Cpl. Davis volunteered to serve his country, and at 21 years of age, he paid the ultimate sacrifice. Even in times of peace, our military men and women put themselves at great risk to make certain the troops are always ready to defend our nation if the need should arise.

“I can’t even begin to imagine the pain five families and many friends are facing today as they learn of the loss of these young men. Robba and I are praying for the Davis family – and all the military families impacted by this accident.”

Kansas Senator Roger Marshall also issued a statement:

“The loss of Lance Corporal Davis and his fellow marines is devastating news.  These courageous young men committed their lives to serving our country and were taken too soon. May they rest in peace, and may God bless their friends and families during this unimaginable time. We will never forget their service and sacrifice for our great nation.”
