The Wichita school district will have a public hearing Thursday evening on a proposed plan to close four elementary schools and two middle schools.

The district has had parent listening sessions during the past week, and a public hearing will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Morris Administrative Center at 903 South Edgemoor.   People who want to speak at the public hearing will have to register in advance of the meeting, by calling the Clerk of the Board at 973-4553.

The Board of Education is considering a plan to close Clark, Cleaveland, Park and Payne elementary schools, along with Jardine and Hadley middle schools.  The closings would save around $16 million toward an expected shortfall in next year’s budget for the school district.   The Board is expected to take action on the closure plan at its meeting next Monday, March 4th.
