The lead logistics provider for Spirit AeroSystems Distribution Center in Wichita has announced layoffs.
DB Schenker provides centralized distribution location, storage and production line-side delivery for Spirit. The company has announced it will be laying off 255 employees in the wake of the 737 Max production shutdown.
In addition to Sprit’s layoff of about 2,800 employees, around 500 jobs at companies that support Spirit have been announced. It’s unclear when Boeing will complete fixes to the 737 Max to allow it to be re-certified by the FAA.
There are resources available for those affected by the cuts. You can visit the Wichita Workforce Center, or the Aviation Worker Response and Air Capital Commitment websites.
In addition, GKN Aerospace is hosting a career fair today and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kansas Aviation Museum, located at 3350 South George Washington Blvd. The company is looking to fill a variety of engineering and other positions and will be conducting on-site interviews with those who attend.
