The restored B-29 aircraft Doc will begin its spring and summer tour season with events in Wichita this weekend.

The 2024 tour will be the eighth season for Doc since its restoration in 2016, and it also begins a year-long tribute for the 80th anniversary of the building of Doc by the Boeing Company in Wichita in 1944.

The B-29 Doc and WSU Tech Foundation will have the Pull-A-Plane event on Saturday, March 9th.  Teams of 25 people will compete to see who can pull the aircraft along the runway for a distance of 25 feet in the fastest time.    This is a fundraising event for WSU Tech student scholarships and for Doc’s educational mission.     The event was originally scheduled last October, but it was delayed because of Doc’s late return from a tour stop in Arizona.

The annual maintenance period for Doc has been extended for a month, delaying the start of the 2024 tour.   B-29 Doc executive director Josh Wells said a few items need to be addressed to ensure the safe operation of Doc for 2024.    The tour stops impacted by the extended maintenance period are Lawrenceville, Georgia; Sarasota, Florida; and the Tampa Bay AirFest in Tampa, Florida.

The tour schedule changes being announced for Georgia and Florida will not affect events scheduled at the B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitors Center during the same period. In addition, the remaining tour schedule for B-29 Doc for 2024 remains intact and additional tour stops in May and June will be announced soon.
