College baseball coaching legend Gene Stephenson has announced a major gift to the team he led for 35 years.

Former Shockers baseball coach Gene Stephenson is donating 600-thousand-dollars to the baseball program, and he has committed 20-thousand-dollars as an annual gift to the Wheat Shock Collective, which supports Name, Image and Likeness opportunities for Wichita State baseball players.

Stephenson led the Shocker program from 1978 to 2013 and guided the team to a College World Series championship in 1989.  His teams made seven College World Series appearances overall.  He also guided the Shockers to 27 NCAA Regional appearances, two NCAA Super Regional appearances, 20 Valley regular-season titles and 17 Valley tournament championships.   Stephenson is now a trustee of the College Baseball Foundation/National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
