A golf course in west Wichita will close for a little over a week to work on restoring fairways that were damaged by winterkill.
The Tex Consolver Golf Course at 1931 South Tyler Road will be closed Wednesday, May 29th through Friday, June 7th. The driving range and the golf simulator will remain open.
Golf Wichita said many large areas of the golf course are too severely damaged to regenerate naturally. To ensure the fairways are restored and can sustain healthy grass growth for the remainder of this year and the next, crews will have to conduct a comprehensive sprigging process. Specialized equipment will be brought in for this process.
The golf course will reopen Saturday, June 8th, and play will be restricted to cart paths only for the foreseeable future. Lessons for the Wichita Junior Golf program will continue as scheduled, but there will be no play on the course Monday, June 3. Normal play will resume Monday, June 10. The Junior Tour schedule will be adjusted accordingly.
